Fizik’s Aliante R3 Saddle is for riders who prefer a curved perch for their undercarriage. All Aliante’s share this shape, while the R3 designation tells you that the saddle frame is held in place with K:ium rails, a proprietary tubular steel alloy that is eight percent lighter than titanium, and with titanium-like corrosion resistance. The rails are marked to the millimeter for precision fitting.
In the world of Fizik’s Spine Concept, this saddle is for “Bull” riders, cyclists who are lacking a bit of flexibility and having high pelvic rotation while pedaling. Whether or not you go along with this concept is up to you. Many like curved saddles because they feel that the shape gives them something to hold them from sliding back when on the back of the saddle in high-torque, low-cadence efforts, and limits forward movement when doing high-power, high-cadence efforts.
The shell is a composite nylon. The cover is made of Microtex, a smooth, tough synthetic leather that wears well. As with all Fizik saddles, the Fizik logo in the back detaches to reveal a mounting point for Fizik Integrated Clip System accessories, a line that includes both lights and bags.
